Two manual lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orion (1935) at the start of a race in Sognefjord, off Balholm, Norway. The boats are seen from on board the ship and each boat is manned by eleven crew members. One of the boats is ready for the start while the other still has some of her oars tossed. The photographer is looking down from on board the ship and the boats are seen from just aft of their port sides.
