Seascape from the 'Castilian'

A rapid sketch from the 'Castilian', showing the outline of a sailing ship on the horizon. It explores the relationship between sea, sky and ship, through the use of colour. The sky occupies three quarters of the picture and the artist has aimed at a tonal effect. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II.
