Seascape from the 'Castilian'
A sketch from the 'Castilian'. Everett shows the effect of light on the surface of the water. He has experimented with tones, using pale grey and lilac. The movement of the waves is implied by small brush strokes. The light sky is reflected in the water in the foreground. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. The painting is inscribed 'Cas' verso. See also BHC0179.
