Seascape from the 'Castilian'
A sketch from the 'Castilian'. It shows a calm sea with several small boats on the skyline on the right. The sea is loosely sketched with layers of short coloured brush strokes representing the waves. The light tones of the sky are indicated with streaks of variously toned paint. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. The painting is inscribed 'Cas' verso.
