A sketch from the 'Castilian' showing the relationship between sea, sky and sail. A sailing ship is visible on the horizon to the left and is silhouetted against the sky. The unfocused depiction of the sea that indicates the ship far on the horizon is the reason for the sketch. Everett has shown the sky as horizontal layers of tonal paint, and the waves are indicated by lines of dark blue. The painting is probably related to BHC0190. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right, and 'Castilian 38' verso. See also BHC0189.
