Seascape from the 'Castilian'
A sketch from the 'Castilian' showing the relationship between sea, sky and sail. A sailing ship is visible on the horizon to the left and is silhouetted against the sky. The painting is probably related to BHC0189, showing the same ship moving slightly closer to form a continuing sequence. This indicates the artist's attempt to record and observe in a succession of rapid sketches. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. The painting is inscribed 'Cas' verso.
