HMS.'Indefatigable', bow view at sea
Inscribed by the artist, lower right, 'Indefatigable'. A reasonably accurate bow view (especially with regard to the rigging) of this battlecruiser of 1909 and one which seems to be a more complete version of PAE2710. The fact she appears under way but still flying a jack at the bow may suggest Wyllie developed it from a sketch of her moored, since in theory the jack is only a harbour flag. However, the other circumstances when it is flown is when the ship is passing others which are not under way and dressed overall, or when the Sovereign is aboard and the ship flying the Royal Standard: it is clearly not the latter, at least, and does not look like the former.
