Seascape from the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'

A sketch of the sea from the 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis'. The artist has concentrated on the effect of waves deep at sea. In particular he has been concerned with the effects of light on the surface of the water and of the appearance of waves breaking and forming crests. The surface of the water is broken with undulations of darker blue paint to indicate the waves as they emerge as peaks, darker on the underside and white on the breaking crests. In the right foreground the artist has painted this process in detail, showing the frothy nature of the water and spume. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Panaghis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'Penaghis M. Hadoulis' verso.
