A sketch of waves in a breeze, with a ship just visible on the horizon towards the right. The waves are shown as rhythmic patterns of short brush strokes of colour with the focus on the crests of the waves and the white patterning of the foam. The night sky is streaked with pale pink and lilac. A broken layer of pale blue paint indicates cloud at the top of the painting.
