A slightly distant port side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Strathnaver (1931) moored in the San Marco Basin at Venice, Italy. She has accommodation ladders rigged amidships and aft and lighters are alongside the aft one. She is flying the Italian ensign from the port yardarm on her foremast. Passenger piers are in the foreground and advertisements for Campari and for Fernet-Branca are displayed on them. Moored by the stern to the same buoy as the Strathnaver is the Italian Navy light cruiser Luigi Cardorna (1931) but only the starboard side of her stern is in the picture. The photographer is looking south-east-by-east from an elevated position on the Riva Schiavoni.
