A starboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the Royal Navy battleship Valiant (1914) raising her anchor in Gibraltar Bay. Her starboard forward anchor is being raised and the anchor chain is being washed down using an high pressure hose on the forecastle. A large party of seamen is working on the chain as it crosses the forecastle. A Fairey IIIF seaplane is on the Type EIH catapult on the quarterdeck.
