A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) at Quarry Wharf, Valletta, Malta. The ship is moored stern-on to the wharf and has her anchors deployed. An accommodation ladder is rigged to a shell door amidships with small boats alongside and a water boat is alongside further aft. She has a full awning rigged over her aft promenade deck and she is flying the Blue Peter from the port yardarm on her foremast. Lifeboats 9 and 15 have been launched. Berthed to port of her is an Italian 2-funnelled passenger vessel. The photographer is looking east-by-south from the Saluting Battery in Valletta showing St. Barbara Bastion in the foreground, the Royal Navy battlecruiser Repulse (1916) and the aircraft carrier Glorious (1916) at moorings in Grand Harbour and Ricasoli in the background.
