A slightly distant starboard quarter view of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) at Quarry Wharf, Valletta, Malta. The ship is moored stern-on to the wharf and has her anchors deployed. Accommodation ladders are rigged to a shell door amidships and to 'C' deck aft with small boats, including dghaisas close by. She has a full awning rigged over her aft promenade deck and she is flying the Blue Peter from the port yardarm on her foremast. Lifeboats 9 and 15 have been launched. The photographer is looking east from the Saluting Battery in Valletta showing the Church of Our Lady of Liesse in the left foreground and the Royal Navy battlecruiser Repulse (1916) with awnings rigged and the aircraft carrier Glorious (1916) at moorings in Grand Harbour. Ricasoli is in the left background with the Royal Naval Hospital in Bighi and Kalkara Creek on the right.
