Dog racing on the aft promenade deck of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929).
Dog racing on the aft promenade deck of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929). Six wooden greyhounds numbered 1 to 6 and painted in different colours, are each accompanied by a passenger who makes the moves round a circular numbered track. In the centre of the track is a table with trophy cups on it and a woman seated at the table throws the dice to determine each move. A man with a megaphone calls out the dog number and the number of moves forward it must make. Some passengers are seated in deckchairs round the track. The photographer is looking down, to starboard and aft from the port side of the boat deck.
