A port side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) moored and anchored in San Marco Basin, Venice, Italy. Both anchors are deployed and she is moored to a buoy astern. She has accommodation ladders rigged to a shell door amidships and to 'C' deck aft and gondolas are alongside both ladders. She has an full awning rigged over her aft promenade deck. The Blue Peter is flying from the port yardarm on her foremast. The photographer is looking south-east from the Riva Schiavoni showing the lighthouse on the end of the San Giorgio Maggiore harbour breakwater on the right and the island of San Servolo in the right background. An Italian Navy Leone class destroyer (1923) is moored in the left background with a full set of awnings rigged.
