The photographer is looking aft from the roof of the poop house showing crew members hauling on a rope attached the the shark's tail and on a line that is still in the shark's mouth. One of the ship's cooks is standing by the rail looking on. One of the crew has a White Star Line bath towel wrapped round his waist.
