A seaman taking soundings on board the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Mongolia (1923) in a Norwegian fjord. The photographer is on the starboard side of the forecastle looking aft along the ship's side showing a seaman in the chains swinging the lead while a female passenger leans over the rail to watch the lead. Seaboat number 1 has been swung out and lowered to promenade deck level. A vertical format negative.
