Launching a motor lifeboat on an Orient Line cruise ship, possibly the Orontes (1929). The photographer is looking forward from inside a lifeboat, probably number 20, which is still under its davits on the poop of the ship and the forward davit of this boat is framing the picture. The motor lifeboat further forward on the promenade deck, probably number 18, has been swung out and lowered to deck level anf a number of passengers are watching proceedings. A vertical format negative.
