A starboard side view of manual lifeboats from the Orient Line cruise ship Orontes (1929) taking part in a boat race in Sognefjord, off Balholm, Norway. Each manual lifeboat is crewed by eight male and eight female passengers under the supervision of two of the ship's seamen. The photographer is in one of the ship's motor tenders acting as safety boat. The nearest three boats are numbers 10, 8 and 9 but the number of the fourth boat is not quite decipherable but is probably number 7, which appears to be in the lead.
