A sketch of the sea from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. The artist has concentrated on the effects of waves on a calm sea. In particular he is concerned with the patterning created by the rhythm of the waves and the appearance of waves breaking and forming crests. They converge to form almost a herringbone effect, moving diagonally across the picture and forming a V shape in the foreground. The surface of the water is broken with undulations of darker blue paint to indicate the waves and they emerge as peaks, darker on the underside and white on the breaking crests. Everett sailed in the Greek- owned steamer, 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'PMH' verso.
