A sketch of the sea from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. The artist has concentrated on the effects of waves on a calm sea. In particular he is concerned with the patterning created by the rhythm of the waves and the appearance of waves breaking. The surface of the water is broken with undulations of darker blue paint to indicate the waves. The sky occupies a sixth of the picture surface and is shown as a lemon strip at the top of the sketch. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'PMH' verso.
