There are seven boats in the picture, they are viewed from off the starboard quarter and are racing downriver with colourful spinnakers set as well as their mainsail. Four of the boats have sail numbers 2, K133, K143 and K4078. K133 is named Akela-B (1974) and K4078 is Uforia (fl. 1980). Kingsnorth Jetty is in the centre background with two colliers alongside it.
