A port side view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the Lincoln smack Mermaid (1904) under sail in Gillingham Reach, River Medway, bound downriver at the start of a match. Her port registry LN32 is on her hull and on her mainsail. On the right under full sail on the port tack is the Faversham registered smack Stormy Petrel (1890) and her port registry F71 is on her hull. In the centre is the Lincoln registered oyster smack Lily May (1912) with the port registry LN230 on her hull. Negatives numbers PM2359/2 to PM2364/37 were taken on the same day.
