A close view of the foredeck and side pawl windlass of the staysail spritsail barge Ethel Maud (1889) which is berthed at Hoo Marina, Kent, at low tide. The barge is berthed bow-on to the shore and the photographer is just off the starboard side abreast the forward hatch looking forward and to port. There are four turns of cord on the windlass drum. Just forward of the forward hatch on the starboard side is a rusty and broken stove pipe. The photographer's camera case is on the forward hatch. A woman's head is projecting above the accommodation companionway. Negatives numbers PM2365/7 to PM2369/28 were taken on the same occasion.
