Seascape

A sketch showing the relationship between sea, sky and sun. The calm sea is loosely sketched and occupies just under half the picture space. The sky is shown as layers of colour wash, pink close to the horizon and moving upwards through several tones of yellow streaked with blue and pink. Small dashes of colour indicate cloud. The sun is low in the sky and painted with thicker paint to stand out as brilliant. It casts a golden reflection over the surface of the water in the centre of the painting. The painting is inscribed with a monogram bottom right.
