The bowsprit spritsail barge Xylonite (1926) under sail in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, passing Tilbury Landing Stage bound down at the start of a barge match. She has a white jib and she has a Prospect of Whitby logo on her topsail. The barge on the right, seen from fine off her starboard quarter as she tacks across the river, is the staysail barge Vigilant (1904) with a Crossed Keys logo on her topsail. The photographer is looking north across the river from Gravesend.
