Seascape

A rapid sketch showing sea, land, sun and sky. The outline of land is visible on the left. The sea is painted as horizontal layers of colour with waves roughly implied in the foreground as a series of diagonal lines of colour. The sky occupies two thirds of the picture space and appears as thin washes of colour including yellow, blue and pink. Clouds hover and are suggested by streaks of colour. The sun is shown low over the horizon and has been painted a rich yellow sending out a glow across the sky. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram lower right.
