Seascape

A rough sketch capturing the fleeting effect of the movement of waves. The sea is painted a dark blue, darker towards the horizon and lighter in the foreground where the artist has allowed the support to show through. The waves are indicated by streaks of light paint on the picture surface, particularly on the left. The sky is painted with a pale block of blue on the left and cream and pink on the right. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram lower right.
