A group photograph of Midshipmen (l-r) Henry B. Crane, Francis H. Austen, Gilbert C. A. Whitelocke, and Douglas A. Bingley, with Lieutenant Gerald H. Thomson crouching in the front holding the paws of the bulldog 'Maori' in on board the battleship HMS Zealandia (1904). Henry Crane has a telescope tucked under his right arm and the midshipmen have their hands behind their backs. An awning is spread over the quarterdeck above them and the skylight behind has been opened wide.

The photograph is captioned 'HBC, Mid Austen, Mid Whitelocke, Mid Bingley / Lieut Thomson, Maori'.

Henry Berwick Crane joined HMS Zealandia in April 1912 as a Midshipman, having previously served on HMS Queen.
