A carefully staged group photograph of Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company pursers and stewards on board one of the company's passenger liners. The photographer is on the deck aft of the superstructure and he is looking forward at the group which is spread over three decks and two flights of stairs. Six of the senior officers are on the highest deck and the ship's captain, G.K. Harrison, is on the right of the line. Three more officers are on the middle deck. Two wine waiters are on the middle deck and 28 stewards are on the stairs and in a crescent formation on the deck. On deck in the crescent is a well dressed woman sitting on a deck chair.
