A British India Steam Navigation Company commander standing by the wheel in the wheelhouse of his ship while under way at sea. This is a three-quarter length portrait, he is resting his left hand on the gimbal of the binnacle and he has five medal ribbons on his jacket. The photographer is looking to port and slightly aft from the starboard side close to the engine room telegraph which is set to full ahead. Negatives numbers N85768 to N85770 and N85774 were taken on the same occasion.
