Engineering cadets working on the upper inspection platform in the engine room on board the British India Steam Navigation Company cargo liner and cadet training ship Chantala (1950) while berthed in the Royal Albert Dock, London. The event has been staged for the benefit of the photographer who is looking down on the group from above while they supposedly carry out repairs to one of the cylinder heads of the Doxford 6 cylinder diesel engine. One of the cadets is using a ring spanner, one is holding a light rope and one is swinging a sledgehammer. Negatives numbers N85778 to N85818 inclusive were taken on the same day.
