A local outrigger canoe being launched from the beach near to the Mount Lavinia Hotel at Mount Lavinia, south of Colombo, Ceylon. Three men are setting out for some fishing in their canoe. The boat's hull is an hollowed out tree trunk and the side is a canvas sheet lashed to a wooden framework which is nailed to the tree trunk. The wooden outrigger is rigged to the port side but the boat is double-ended. Mount Lavinia Hotel is located in the coastal town of Mount Lavinia, which is just 12 kilometres south of central Colombo.
