Hereford Street was one of the main east-west thoroughfares in Christchurch and the premises of the Alliance Tea Company, Jones Bros and Amington house are on the left. This engraving was produced from a photograph taken by Mr Mundy during the visit of Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh when he was captain of the Royal Navy frigate Galatea.
