The photographer is at the aft end of the towing deck of the tug looking to port showing a man looking at the main manilla hawser before the tow was connected. The tanker is seen from fine off her starboard quarter and the steam tug St. Denys (1929) is alongside her starboard side with the tugs St. Merryn (1945) and St. Mawes (1951) further forward.
