The photographer is looking over the starboard side of the tug while very close to the stern of the tanker showing the running gog line attached to the manilla hawser. The steam tug St. Denys (1929) is alongside the tanker and the steam tug St. Mawes (1951) is starting to pull the ship's bow round to starboard.
