The photographer is on the port side of the forecastle deck looking down, aft and to starboard. Number one hold is being loaded with a mixed cargo for Mediterranean ports including steel drums, cardboard drums and boxes, wooden packing cases and bags of Price's Pristerene. A hoist of four blue-painted steel drums of Arquad 2HT-75 dimethyl ammonium chloride is being swung into position alongside 24 similar drums on the deck to starboard of the hold.
