On board the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Melita (1971) alongside a berth in Liverpool Docks. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on the port side of the aft emd of the forecastle deck abreast the forward crane looking to starboard and aft. A man is standing by the joystick control of the crane. Number one hold is open and has a large amount of general cargo in it, all destined for Mediterranean ports. To starboard of the hold is a deck cargo of hazardous materials including 30 blue-painted drums of Arquad 2HT-75 dimethyl ammonium chloride destined for Piraeus.
