A view of the starboard side of the forepart of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Strathardle (1967) while alongside a wharf loading cargo in a Japanese port. The photographer is in a slightly elevated position on the quayside abreast the superstructure looking forward and to port showing nets suspended over the ship's side in way of numbers 1, 2 and 3 holds. The ship is using her own cranes to load cargo brought to the quayside by motor lorries. Stacks of cardboard boxes, some marked "Fragile" and "Glass Ware" are waiting to be loaded. A Honda estate car is being hoisted by number 6 crane to be loaded into number 5 hold. Transparencies numbers PCT611 to PCT615 and PCT626 to PCT628 were taken on the same occasion.
