Ten Indian and Gurkha Victoria Cross holders parading on the boat deck of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger/cargo liner Strathmore (1935) while alongside a berth in Tilbury Docks, Essex. They have arrived to take part in the V.C. Centenary Celebrations which were held in London at the end of June and included a service in Westminster Abbey and a parade and inspection in Hyde Park, which was held in the presence of H.M. The Queen. Nine of the ten V.C. holders are in uniform and are serving members of the Indian and Nepalese Armies. The only man in his civilian dress is said to be Lieutenant Singh but this cannot be verified. On page 835 of the Illustrated London News of June 30, 1956 the civilian is identified as "Lieut. Singh". The websites www.victoriacross.org.uk/ccww2ina.htm. and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_Victoria_Cross_recipients have been investigated and no man of this name and rank can be traced.
