A close view of the port side of the bow of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Salmara (1956) in the King George V Dock, London. The ship is thought to be alongside Berth 11 on the north side of the dock. An E.W. Taylor lighter is berthed across the ship's bow and a man is standing on the lighter while using a long handled brush to touch up the black paintwork on the Salmara's hull. A number of British Daimler military ambulances are on the quayside with other vehicles awaiting shipment. The photographer is looking north from an elevated position on the south side of the dock. A vertical format image. Transparency number PCT1388 was taken on the same occasion.
