A close-up view of the starboard side of the bow of the fruit ship Bencomo (1950) in Tilbury Docks, Essex. She has severe damage to her bow. On the morning of 18 April 1964, when outward bound from London to Teneriffe, she was in collision in fog with the Esso Petroleum Co tanker ESSO CARDIFF (31,676 tons gross) not far from the Shivering Sands forts. She turned round and came back up the Thames, lying off Gravesend for a while waiting for a berth in Tilbury Dock. This is a monochrome transparency.
