The British India Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Chakdara (1951) unloading a cargo of Tanganyika sisal at Sunderland, Durham. The photographer is on board the ship looking aft and to port from the forecastle showing the ship's bell in the foreground. Quayside cranes are being used to unload bales of sisal from numbers 1 and 2 holds and they are being swung ashore and lowered onto the first floor balcony of a storage shed. The bales are labelled TASMA (Tanganyika Sisal Marketing Assocation). The Sunderland Port Health Authority office is on the right. Negatives PM1792/4A to PM1796/30A were taken on the same occasion.
