Bales of sisal, discharged from the British India Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Chakdara (1951), on the first floor balcony of a quayside storage shed at Sunderland, Durham. The bales are labelled TASMA (Tanganyika Sisal Marketing Association) and a mobile crane is being used to lift two of the bales onto the roof for loading onto road vehicles. The photographer is near the end of the balcony and on the left is a dockside crane unloading more sisal bales from number 4 hold of the Chakdara, which is berthed port side to the quay. Temporary horse stalls are on the deck of the ship abreast number 4 hatch coaming. Negatives PM1792/4A to PM1796/30A were taken on the same occasion.
