He is climbing down a ladder on the port side amidships into a wooden motor lighter that will take him ashore. The photographer, Henry Bird, was an apprentice on board the Bank Line cargo vessel Inverbank (1924) which was on a voyage from Huelva, Spain, to Marcus Hook, Philadelphia, with a cargo of copper sulphate ore.
