Apprentice Horace Hayward chipping the anchor on the port bow of the Bank Line general cargo ship Inverbank (1924) at Jacksonville, Florida. He is sitting on the bottom rung of a ladder suspended over the bow. A vertical format negative. The photographer, Henry Bird, was an apprentice on board the Inverbank (1924) which was at Jacksonville to complete loading a cargo of scrap iron for delivery to the steel works at Kamaishi, Japan. Slide 7 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
