The entrance to a Shinto temple at Kamaishi, Japan. The guardian komainu, or lion-dog, is on the left. The photographer is an apprentice serving on board the Bank Line cargo vessel Inverbank (1924) which is in port to discharge a cargo of scrap iron from the U.S.A. Slide 12 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
