Four apprentices from the Bank Line cargo vessel Inverbank (1924) relaxing on the beach at Fremantle, Western Australia. Kneeling, left to right, are john Naylor and Horace Hayward. Lying from left to right are Kenneth Glass and 'Mitch' Mitchell. The photographer is also an apprentice from the Inverbank. The apprentices are supposed to be collecting sand for holystoning the ship's decks. The ship was in Fremantle to discharge a part cargo of nitrate from Chile. Slide 19 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
