A whale hauled up on the slipway at the Bluff Whaling Station, Durban, South Africa. It has been hauled up tail first, ready for flensing. The photographer was an apprentice on board the Bank Line cargo vessel Tymeric (1919) which was in port for bunkers and provisions before departing for the U.K. on 1 July 1939. Slide 33 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
