Apprentice Joe White cleaning the barrel of the 4-inch gun on the poop of the Bank Line general cargo vessel Aymeric (1919) while under way at sea. He is sitting astride the barrel facing forward. The photographer was an apprentice on board and is looking aft. Between 24 January and 19 March the ship did one round voyage Tyne to Bone and between 1 April and 15 June she did one round voyage Tyne to Freetown. Slide 36 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
